Everyone in the country knows just how important the president is. They make laws, represent our country, and are essentially the face of the American people. It’s no wonder everyone has such a vested interest in who’s next in the up and coming 2020 election. As for the election, there are far more democratic candidates to choose from this year, so it’s important to know who they are and what they’re all about. Here are, according to Real Clear Politics, in order of the polls, the front running candidates:
Former Vice President Joe

Joe Biden is 76 years old. Born in Scranton, Pa, he is a six-term senator from Delaware first elected in 1972 and the 47th vice president of the United States under Obama. Some of his signature issues include health care, and the Affordable Health Care act is a priority to him. He speaks often about America’s role as a leader in the world (New York

Elizabeth Warren is 70 years old and was born in Oklahoma City. A former law professor, she was elected to the Senate in 2012. Her signature issues include shifting the power towards the working people instead of large corporations and the rich. Some of her policy plans include creating a wealth tax, canceling student loan debt for most students, and breaking up big tech companies (New York Times).

78 years old and born in Brooklyn, Sanders is the former mayor of Burlington. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1990, the Senate in 2006, and was the runner up to Hillary Clinton in 2016. His primary issues concern Medicare for all, a $15 minimum wage, and tuition-free public college for all. Though well known, he is a self-described democratic socialist, which impacts many people’s view of him (New York Times).
Presidential candidate Pete

Pete Buttigieg is 37 years old and was born in South Bend Indiana. Mayor of South Bend since 2012, he’s a former intelligence officer in the Navy Reserve, and a former consultant for McKinsey & Company. His signature issue is generational change. As the youngest candidate, he would like to create a new era of American politics. He was the first candidate to push the idea of increasing the number of seats on the Supreme Court (New York Times).

Kamala Harris is 54 years old and was born in Oakland, California. Elected to the Senate in 2016, she is also the former attorney general of California, as well as the former San Francisco district attorney. Her signature issues focus largely on historically marginalized groups like women, people of color and low-income Americans (New York Times).
