With the variety of different events here at Ramapo, there is a guaranteed niche for everyone! Whether it’s athletics, arts, clubs, or academics, there are so many exciting upcoming events happening for this new school year.
In the arts specifically, it was just announced that the fall play will be “Sylvia,” and senior Melina Frodella says that it is a comedy about “a man who forms a strong bond with his dog named Sylvia, who will be played by a Gold Masque actor.” Lauren Miller is also a Gold Masque member, and feels that “Sylvia is going to be an amazing experience for everyone involved. I know that the audience, administration, crew, and cast will have such a fun time with this show! We are always looking for new members of Gold Masque, so if you’re thinking about joining, please do!” There are plenty of positions involved with the fall play that can be done behind the scenes, so if you’re interested but are not looking to be in the spotlight, there is a spot for you!
There are also many events that clubs are leading as well. Relay for Life is a district held fundraising event that is put on by students and volunteers for the American Cancer Society. Shauna Shaghaghi, a senior at Indian Hills, is the FLOW District People Lead and says that one can expect “various fundraisers such as: bake sales, Cycle Bar fundraisers, badminton tournaments, and the yearly kickoff event.” Relay teams are already starting to prepare for the event held in May.
Sara Tesser is the President of DECA, and states that DECA is a “business club, but no prior knowledge is required. It’s a really fun way to learn business while also getting some real world experience with roleplays.” Some upcoming events for DECA include there first meeting, role play nights were are “essentially mock regional events” and regionals.
We also have renowned photographer Jay Blakesberg coming to present for Ramapo on October 26! A photographer for the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia and other famous people and bands, he has published 13 books and had photos featured in Vanity Fair. He talks about his passion, inspiration for his photos and careers paths for students that may be a little outside the box. This presentation will be available for juniors and seniors and opened again that night for adults and anyone else who wants to come. Mrs. Gibson’s art students are also designing a flyer for him and the best ones will be presented to him!
And of course, there are many games and matches that are approaching for our Ramapo fall athletic teams; all of which can be found on our school website, http://ramapo.rih.org/ , under “athletics calendar.”
Ramapo is also hosting its Open House for interested eighth graders on October 12; let’s show everyone how active and supportive our community is by attending these new events!
Whether it’s for home or away games, the fall play, or for a cool club, there are many ways to get involved in the upcoming events planned at Ramapo.
